New digital platform to boost Singapore's tech entrepreneurship ecosystem
ENTREPRENEURS, investors and members of the media will soon have access to real-time, integrated data and insights on Singapore's technology entrepreneurial ecosystem on a new free platform.
TechSG, developed by NUS Enterprise and rapid prototyping startup Wonderlabs, was unveiled on Thursday by Low Yen Ling, Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Trade & Industry.
Powered by IBM cloud technology, TechSG is "more than just an information depository", providing curated research insights and analytical tools to track the "interdependency, growth dynamics and vibrancy" of the entrepreneurial ecosystem here.
Said Wong Poh Kam, director of NUS Entrepreneurship Centre: "It will build upon the information resources of various existing ecosystem players, such as (tech blog) e27 and the Singapore Venture Capital Association, by providing a common data architecture that enables information from different sources to be integrated and analysed to generate new insights."
Thursday's launch event is the first of a series of efforts to solicit inputs from the startup community, on anything from developments to funding announcements, Prof Wong added, with the goal of making TechSG an open, collaborative platform "by the community for the community".
NUS Enterprise will present regular updates - starting with information on the over 250 startups, incubators and accelerators located in the JTC LaunchPad @ one-north - over the next few months, and a complete coverage of the entrepreneurial ecosystem at InnovFest unBound, slated to be held in June 2016.
Alongside the launch, IBM will provide free trials of Bluemix - its open standards cloud platform - to help entrepreneurs and businesses build and manage their website and mobile apps. For qualified local startups, IBM will also offer them up to US$120,000 of cloud credits to use its cloud technology.
With TechSG, Singapore joins New York, London, Berlin and several other "smart cities" as part of IBM's digital initiative that connects partners, developers and entrepreneurs at the local level.
