McDonald's names chief field officer to help with franchisees
[NEW YORK] McDonald's Corp named Karen King to the new role of chief field officer, part of a management reshuffling aimed at simplifying operations and strengthening its frayed ties with franchisees.
Ms King, who currently serves as chief people officer, will oversee four US zones that include 14,000 restaurants, as well as franchise relations, the company said in a statement Friday. McDonald's plans to announce a replacement for chief people officer, a human-resources role, in the coming weeks.
Chief Executive Officer Steve Easterbrook is revamping the world's largest fast-food chain, seeking to turn it into a "modern, progressive burger company." But the changes have raised hackles among McDonald's restaurant owners, since they're typically the ones paying to make improvements.
Franchisees have rated their ties to McDonald's corporate bosses as being in the worst shape in at least a decade, according to a Janney Capital Markets survey released in April.
As part of the latest management changes, Chief Support Officer Jim Norberg will be stepping down after 34 years at McDonald's. He previously served as chief restaurant officer.
