US: Stocks rise as S&P 500 seeks to extend record run

[NEW YORK] US stocks opened higher Friday with the S&P 500 looking to lift further a day after notching a new all-time high.
Five minutes into trade, the S&P 500 was at 2,123.16, up 2.06 points.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 13.98 at 18,266.22, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index gained 11.41 at 5,062.21.
The S&P 500 has flirted over the last three months with breaking into a higher trading range but has instead retreated.
"What traders are watching now is whether (the S&P 500) can power-kick its way to higher highs above the 2,125 level (its all-time intraday high) or if it has its legs kicked out from under it after challenging such an auspicious level," said Patrick O'Hare, analyst at Briefing.com.
