Changi East Development works on track
Land preparation works for the Changi East Development - which includes Changi Airport's upcoming third runway and Terminal 5 (T5) - are on track and have moved on to the next phase.
Presently, ground improvements works are being carried out to strengthen the soil at the site, which spans over 1,000 hectares. This is to ensure the site, a reclaimed plot of land with soft marine clay, will be able to handle airport infrastructure and the weight of the aircraft that will operate there.
Works to widen the existing Tanah Merah Coast Road as well as to construct a new road between Tanah Merah Coast Road and Aviation Park Road are also underway. The new road will replace Changi Coast Road, which will give way to link T5 and the third runway to the existing airfield.
Other works - such as a canal diversion and runway construction - will start later this year.
All these works will be carried out over the next five to six years.
The Ministry of Transport, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and Changi Airport Group are working together with the contractors to ensure safety is upheld as works take place.
