CAAS awards contract on air traffic management to UK's NATS
UK-BASED air traffic management firm NATS has been awarded a contract by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) as the CAAS seeks to enhance its air traffic navigation services capabilities.
This comes in anticipation of future growth and challenges at Changi Airport, which plans to incorporate a third runway in the coming years.
NATS won four out of five work packages in a bidding process that involved four other international groups. It has already been working with CAAS over the last four years in areas such as air traffic management operations, air traffic control training, safety management as well as analytics and research.
In light of the contract win, NATS will expand its office in Singapore, which was set up last year.
The contract work started in March and will run through to 2017, or for 27 months in total. NATS will be supported by Airbus Prosky.
Catherine Mason, managing director (services) at NATS, said: "Singapore is a major aviation hub in Southeast Asia. We are honoured to get the chance to work with the CAAS on air traffic management there and look forward to working together to help with airport expansion plans and third runway activity. Air travel in South-east Asia is continuing to grow and Singapore is perfectly placed to drive and support these favourable economic conditions."
